Cape Town once again delivered huge wind, heavy swell and maximum drama for the 2025 Red Bull King of the Air, the world’s most famous big-air kiteboarding contest. Kite Beach, Bloubergstrand became the stage for a story nobody could have scripted better: an all-Italian, all-family final between brothers Lorenzo and Leonardo Casati.
Lorenzo Casati – 2025 Champion
After three days of competition, it was 20-year-old Lorenzo Casati who claimed the crown. In the 15-minute open final he scored 34.02 points, beating his 16-year-old brother Leonardo on 31.12, while Dutch rider Cohan Van Dijk completed the podium with 27.18 points.
Lorenzo’s riding combined massive kiteloop-boardoffs, clean landings and almost flawless consistency. Reports from the event highlight that he landed 39 of 40 tricks over the whole competition and finished the final with zero crashes, an almost unheard-of level of control in 30–40-knot Cape Town wind.
What Record Did He Set?
With this win, Lorenzo achieves a unique milestone in King of the Air history:
- He now holds two King of the Air titles (2022 and 2025).
- He becomes the only rider ever to reach the podium four years in a row:
1st in 2022, 2nd in 2023, 2nd in 2024, 1st in 2025.
On top of that, the 2025 final was the first brother-versus-brother showdown in event history, turning the heat into a family battle watched by thousands on the beach and online.
While the spotlight was on Lorenzo’s second title, Leonardo set his own mark: at just 16 years and a few months, he became the youngest finalist ever at Red Bull King of the Air, breaking Jamie Overbeek’s previous age record from 2022.
The 2025 Red Bull King of the Air will be remembered as the year the Casati brothers wrote their family name into Cape Town history and Lorenzo set a new performance benchmark with back-to-back podium seasons and his second crown.
